On April 20 1966, a group of enthusiasts met in the library of the Chalmers Technical
College to discuss whether to start a local veteran car club in Gothenburg.
The club was indeed founded, and had its first excursion only a month and a
half later. The meeting place of those days - near a "Bugatti-blue" public phone booth
- is a classic place in the club's history.

Initially the club was called "Gothenburg's Automobile Historians", then the
"Motor Historic Club of Gothenburg", but adopted its current name "the
Gothenburg Motor Historic Club" (Göteborgs Motorhistoriska
Klubb, GMHK) om March 5, 1969. The club had then 60 members, but has now
grown to more than 600, both old and young, all sharing a common interest: old
vehicles!
